The BSA wants to offer enormous thanks to our members for all of the work that they do every year. It is a pleasure and an honour to work within a profession full of such motivated, hardworking and joyful people. It was sobering to read the outcome of the Kingdon review. Our thoughts immediately go to the children, their families and the professionals involved. We are grateful to all those involved in the review; their openness and hard work contributed so much to this important document. The link to the review and the BSA statement is HERE.

As we start this new academic year we want to wish all the very best to the students who are starting new courses, whether they are at the very start of their Audiological journey, or are experienced clinicians aiming to develop or refresh a specific skill. We are delighted to congratulate Deborah Vickers as the new President Elect for the European Federation of Audiology Societies in 2025 & 2026; this will lead to being President in 2027 & 2028 and Past President 2029 & 2030. Deborah kindly provides an EFAS update in Audacity and we look forward to hearing more about the work of this great organisation.

Welcome to this month’s BSA e-update. Work on development of Paediatric Audiology Services continues at a pace, and we look forward to the outcomes of the independent review led by Camilla Kingdon and the recommendations that will come out of it. The public consultation phase of this inquiry has recently closed, but further information on this review can be found here.

Working in Audiology, it is too easy to be complacent about our Deaf Awareness, but repeated consultation work has shown that it is something that we need to improve.

Despite our awareness of recent changes in the NHSE workforce, the announcement regarding the closure of NHSE on the 14th of March must still have been a shock for all involved. So, first and foremost, let us extend our thanks to our colleagues at NHSE for their work. We really appreciate their dedication and commitment to improving patient care every working day and with them the very best with the transition and change.

Many thanks to Rosie Adams for all of her excellent work as Chair of the Balance Special Interest Group as she hands the baton to Simon Howe. We are delighted to welcome Simon to the role. The Balance Special Interest Group is a very active SIG, with one great piece of work being the development of the new VEMP Recommended Procedure. We will of course keep you posted on the progress of that work.
