Chair's Update December 2023

Dear members,

We have received lots of positive feedback to last month’s launch of our brand-new website. If you haven’t had a chance to take a look yet, please do visit the site soon and encourage others to do the same. Personally, I have already taken advantage of being able to quickly access the BSA procedures and guidance I need during the working day and access the information within the document on my mobile phone, great functionality and much more time efficient! Remember that once you have logged in as a member you can access both Sound Practice and the International Journal of Audiology without needing to complete any further log in details, again saving time.

I would like to warmly welcome Priya Carling as our new dedicated PGG Trustee who will be supporting Richard and our colleagues in the PGG. Our last BSA Council meeting of the year takes place the week before Christmas and I look forward to hearing about the activity of the special interest groups, particularly their plans for the year ahead. You can explore the work of the SIG’s in their dedicated area on the website: Special Interest Groups — The BSA. We are also looking forward to developing plans around World Hearing Day 2024 and the BSA Scientific meeting 17th-18th June 2024 which I will be able to tell you more about in the new year.

In September I advised that the independent review of Scottish audiology services had been published and I know that many BSA members contributed to the extensive work that review entailed. Jointly with BAA, we have written to several representatives of the Scottish Government requesting an update on the plans for implementing the recommendations of that review. The letter can be read here BAA and BSA letter to Scottish Government — The BSA and as with the joint work on wax removal I will endeavour to keep you updated as we receive further information.

As 2023 draws to a close I would like to thank all members, advisors and trustees for their contributions over the past 12 months and wish you all a restful festive season and very happy new

Kind regards

Donna Corrigan
