Electrophysiology Special Interest Group

Who we are

A group of professionals of varying backgrounds with a passion for electrophysiology, who act as custodians of the BSA guidelines, documents that aim to drive up the standards of clinical practice, nationally and internationally.

Our Aims

To produce and continually update BSA guidelines relating to electrophysiology, with the aim of providing accessible, evidence-based recommended procedures, practice guidance, and position statements to support delivery of safe, high-quality clinical care for children and adults.

To review technological advances, promote research and encourage publications in the field of electrophysiology, and to circulate updates relevant to clinical practice and/or the wider Audiology profession.

To provide learning opportunities for the BSA membership and wider Audiology profession, and to promote scientific meetings.

Current projects

We are currently reviewing the BSA documents on ABR testing in babies, external peer review of ABR testing, early assessment and management of babies referred from NHSP, and assessment and hearing aid provision for patients with a programmable ventriculo-peritoneal (PVP) shunt.

We are working on plans to make the BSA electrophysiology recommended procedures and practice guidance documents more accessible and easier to digest for clinicians working in Audiology.

We are looking at ideas for a further small event after the success of the recent joint BSA EPSIG and BAA “Masking the ABR” webinar by Guy Lightfoot and Jason Smalley.
