Following a review by the NHS England Newborn Hearing Screening Programme team, five English Audiology sites were identified as having lower than expected detection rates of permanent childhood hearing impairment in babies referred from the screen. In response to investigation findings from these sites, NHS England have formed the National Steering Group for Improvement in Hearing Services, chaired by Chief Scientific Officer, Professor Dame Sue Hill. BSA are representing our members as part of this steering group and are contributing to the Quality Improvement, Workforce Development and Commissioning workstreams. BSA is committed to improving quality across audiology services for the benefit of patients and their families and will strive to support the improvement process.
