A recent article in the Sunday Times [˘I had to beg for hearing testsˇ_ the children failed by the NHS (baaudiology.org)] presents recent failures of audiological care experienced by children and their families. While Audiology services are not alone in the significant challenges being faced by healthcare providers, the direct impact that audiological care has on patients and their families cannot be underestimated. The BSA supports meaningful and urgent action to address the shortcomings of our current service and are already contributing to a review of English services. Additional actions that the BSA are taking to support improvements include;
- Overhaul of BSA guidance development processes and relevant documentation
- Extending learning opportunities for both BSA members and non-members
- Supporting research in key clinical areas, including paediatric assessment
