Global Outreach Volunteering Opportunity

A position has arisen to reach out to potential speakers on interesting international topics such as low-cost screening and solar powered hearing aids.

The time requirement is flexible and highly part time, such as 2 to 6 hours per month for 3 or 6+ months with potential for extension projects.

No experience necessary. Interest in an area such as service innovation, international projects, video editing or research is preferred.

Informal enquires are welcome without commitment to better understand the role via outreach@thebsa.org.uk

Audacity Magazine – Editorial Team

The BSA is inviting a new editing team to step forward and take the lead on Audacity, our online magazine that connects clinical, research, and academic voices from across audiology.

With the Brighton team ready to hand over the reins, this is a unique opportunity to collaborate and help shape the future of audiology through thoughtful, engaging content.

What does it involve?

  • Identifying, editing and proofing content
  • Splitting the team into editorial sub-teams looking after each section of Audacity
  • The magazine design and all the setting is done by an external company

Who can get involved?

  • A range of people, from trainees and assistant audiologists to service leads.
  • Individuals who can get involved in something different and develop new skills for their continuing professional development
  • The team can vary between editions if there are staffing changes

What’s the time commitment?

It’s difficult to put an exact figure on the time it takes for each edition. There are small peaks of work at different stages: when starting each edition – thinking about content and sending out emails; then again when receiving articles and performing initial editing; and then again towards the end of the process proof reading articles as they come back from the design team. We don’t need to have any specific face to face meetings or lengthy group conversations All-in-all we’re talking about hours rather than weeks of work for each edition.

What support will we have?

As mentioned, an external company sort out all the magazine de-sign and online publication. We upload final articles to them as Word docs and they format and lay out the magazine. Once we’ve signed off the final proof of the magazine, they go on to sort the digital launch and distribution. Fitwise also support Audacity by engaging with other organisations and companies to secure adverts for each edition.

Is it worth it?

Previous Audacity teams have said “yes, definitely”. You need a named individual to organise everyone, be a point of contact and keep track of who is doing what, where things are up to and prepared to chase things at times. However, the sense of achievement when seeing the finished edition is well worth it, which is a view shared by the whole team.

How To Apply

If you and your team are excited by the idea of working together to champion diverse perspectives, and you are ready to make a real impact, we’d love to hear from you.

Contact us at bsa@thebsa.org.uk telling us why you and your team would like to take on this opportunity.

Closing date: 4pm on 28th February 2026
