The Research Development Group (RDG) of the British Society of Audiology is open to applications for a new Chair.

The RDG is responsible for the development and coordination of innovative initiatives to support BSA members in engaging in research, such as the BSA Small Grants Scheme. 

This is an area that the BSA are keen to develop, for the benefit of its members (across all career levels and roles) and ultimately individuals with hearing and balance disorders.

The Chair holds overall responsibility for the RDG. They ensure aims are reviewed and activity seeks to meet the objectives of the BSA strategy. The Chair acts as a communication channel with the BSA Council and delegates tasks to other group members. The Chair compiles the

Join the BSA Accreditation Team

​The accreditation group are seeking individuals who can offer some of their time to this important and influential role. It is critical to the BSA’s function and supports the whole of the audiology profession.

This group provides a vital role in maintaining the training and professional standards of clinicians working in the field of hearing and aural care in line with BSA guidance.

The accreditation group is responsible for reviewing of applications for course accreditation by the BSA in line with the Minimum Training Guidance standards set out by the professional body. This involves reviewing teaching materials, content, and trainer expertise, provide feedback and making recommendations relating to becoming a BSA-accredited course.

Rather than regularly scheduled meetings, course documentation is received and reviewed on an ad-hoc basis to try and be responsive to course providers’ needs, with group communications conducted via e-mail and document sharing platform (Teams). Documents cover all areas of audiology, so volunteers may be generalists or specialists in any area. The accreditation group is responsible to the BSA Council.

All applicants must be a member of BSA, and the group will consider members with all levels of experience.

Professional Guidance Group (PGG) are recruiting!

The Professional Guidance Group (PGG) is responsible for coordinating production of BSA documents prior to final sign-off by the BSA Council. This includes Recommended Procedures and Clinical Guidance. Most documents are authorised by the special interest groups (SIGs) and the PGG must work with them to agree the guidance and seek expert peer review. The PGG is also responsible for authorising some documents on general topics such as PTA, tympanometry and acoustics.

It is a the core function of the BSA to produce learned guidance, so its good international reputation is dependent on the documents it publishes. The role of the PGG is therefore crucial in coordinating production of documents and includes: review and commenting on draft guidance, ensuring that it is evidence-based, current, relevant, of high impact and quality. The PGG must ultimately uphold high standards that maintains the BSA’s reputation.

Help shape the voice of audiology.

The British Society of Audiology (BSA) is looking for a new editorial team to lead Audacity – our online magazine that brings together the latest clinical practice, research, innovation and professional perspectives from across the audiology community.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with colleagues from across the profession, develop valuable editorial and leadership skills, and play a key role in showcasing the people, ideas and achievements shaping audiology today.

What’s involved?

As part of the editorial team, you’ll:

• Identify and commission engaging content for each edition.
• Edit and proofread articles to ensure they are clear, accurate and accessible.
• Work as part of an editorial sub-team responsible for different sections of the magazine.
• Collaborate with fellow volunteers to produce a high-quality publication.

The magazine’s design, layout and online publication are managed by an external publishing company, allowing the editorial team to focus on creating excellent content.

We welcome applications from across the audiology profession, including:

• Trainee audiologists
• Assistant audiologists
• Clinicians

• Service leads

Whether you’re looking to broaden your experience, contribute to the profession or develop new skills we’d love to hear from you.

The editorial team can also evolve between editions, making it easier for people to get involved as circumstances change.

How much time does it take?

The workload varies throughout the production of each edition, with small peaks at key stages, including:

• Planning themes and inviting contributions.
• Editing submitted articles.
• Reviewing final proofs before publication.

There are no regular face-to-face meetings or lengthy discussions required. Communication is straightforward and can be managed remotely, with the overall commitment amounting to hours rather than weeks for each edition.

What support will you receive?

You’ll be well supported throughout the process.

Our external publishing partner takes care of the magazine’s design, formatting and online publication. The editorial team simply provides the final approved Word documents before reviewing the finished proofs.

Once approved, the publishing team manages the digital launch and distribution of each edition.
