Hypatia Training Ltd – BSA Certificate in Surveillance Audiometry – Leicester (1 Day Update Course)

This comprehensive course provides the knowledge and practical skills required to carry out workplace surveillance audiometry in accordance with current BSA and HSE guidelines.

This course focuses on the core scientific and clinical foundations of audiometry. Delegates will gain an understanding of basic acoustics, including sound pressure levels, frequency, and measurement scales. The anatomy and physiology of hearing are explored alongside the classification and characteristics of hearing loss.

Participants will learn about noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL), including its pathology, risks, and wider social impact. This includes interpretation of NIHL in line with HSE guidance, the SOM approach, and the Coles, Lutman & Buffin (CLB) method.

The afternoon session introduces practical skills in otoscopy and audiometry, covering testing procedures, equipment use, calibration, and factors affecting test accuracy. The day also includes audiogram interpretation and categorisation in line with HSE guidelines.

There is a strong emphasis on hands-on learning throughout the day, allowing delegates—particularly those attending as updates—to practise techniques, reflect on their current skills, and consolidate best practice.

(This course is suitable as a refresher/update, new practitioners are advised to attend our BSA Certification in Surveillance Audiometry 2 days courses.)
