Listening with the Third Ear: Counselling Skills for Audiologists
LISTENING WITH THE THIRD EAR: COUNSELLING SKILLS FOR AUDIOLOGISTS
WITH KRIS ENGLISH
8th October – 3rd December 2019
This course has been developed with The Ear Foundation over 10 years by Kristina English from the University of Akron, Ohio US. Kris will join us by the power of Skype for both workshops.
Audiologists are feeling the strain: every minute spent on “tickbox-management” means a minute lost to patient counselling. As we move patients through appointments as efficiently as possible, we worry: are we also moving patients forward emotionally and psychologically, to help them face their fears, accept their hearing loss, consider change, take steps to better hearing? Do patients know we care, or does it matter? If it does, how can we convey that care within our time constraints? These questions must be explored, now that we know how patient-clinician relationships are so strongly correlated to outcomes. These workshops will present audiological counselling as an evidence-based practice. A wide range of brief and effective counselling strategies will be provided.
The cost of the course includes:
- Two full day workshops plus six weeks e-mentorship
- All study materials
- Kristina English’s Listening with the Third Ear DVD
- Kristina English’s Counselling in Audiologic Practice
