Amplivox 2-day Audiometry Competency Course – Birmingham

A two-day assessed competency course based on a recommended syllabus from the British Society of Audiology (BSA) and further developed with the Health and Safety Executive’s (HSE) Control of Noise at Work regulations (3rd edition L108 2021).

The aim of this course is to provide delegates with the knowledge, confidence and practical skills to be proficient in carrying out screening audiometry, evaluation and categorisation of test results. By the end of the course participants should be able to:

  • Have a foundational understanding of acoustics, and anatomy and physiology of the ear.
  • Understand hearing loss, the legislature surrounding this, and factors affecting testing accuracy.
  • Successfully conduct a complete audiological assessment, including preparatory questionnaire, performance of otoscopy, delivery of instructions to the client, and conducting a manual pure tone air conduction audiometric test.
  • Be confident and competent when interpreting audiometric data and the subsequent implications on a client’s health, including categorising results in-line with HSE 2005 guidance.
  • Provide advice to clients about the appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Understand what is required to organise and run an audiometric surveillance programme, including retaining GDPR compliant records, retrieving data as required, and compiling a standard audit of audiometric data.
  • Understand the necessary equipment maintenance required for successful and accurate hearing screening programmes.

A certificate will be awarded upon full attendance of the course, with successful completion of the written assessment on the second day.
