Chair's Update October 2025

As we start this new academic year we want to wish all the very best to the students who are starting new courses, whether they are at the very start of their Audiological journey, or are experienced clinicians aiming to develop or refresh a specific skill. Also, a huge thanks to all the academic staff who are bringing their enthusiasm and passion for hearing care and their innovative approaches to teaching.

Following the hard work of the National Aural Care Strategy Group since its formation in 2023 led by Aarti Makan, it has been gratifying to see a range of professionals’ engagement with this topic providing feedback to the Minimum Training Standards in Aural Care Public Consultation. We look forward to hearing about the next stages and keeping you updated.

Behind the scenes, members of the BSA have been contributing to the hearing section of the College of Policing new guidelines; “Occupational Health assessment of new police officer applicants – a clinical framework.” One of the outcomes of this guidance in the future may be more referrals from prospective police officers to Audiology services. Do get in touch if you would like to know more about this work and its potential implications.
