Chair's Update March 2025

Welcome to this month’s BSA e-update.

Despite our awareness of recent changes in the NHSE workforce, the announcement regarding the closure of NHSE on the 14th of March must still have been a shock for all involved.  So, first and foremost, let us extend our thanks to our colleagues at NHSE for their work.  We really appreciate their dedication and commitment to improving patient care every working day and with them the very best with the transition and change.

Very many congratulations to Constantina Gorga for “Predictive accuracy of the 40Hz ASSR responses in sleeping adults” being the recipient of the BSA Small Research Grants awarded by our Research Development Group; We look forward to hearing about the outcomes of this work.

You may have spotted the publication of the revised Recommended Procedure on Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) Testing in Newborns.  It is a delight to see the completion of that document.  The companion document, Practice Guidance:  Guidelines for the Early Audiological Assessment and Management of Babies Referred from the Newborn Hearing Screening Programme is now being updated, and we look forward to the feedback and consultation stage of the process for that document.

If you haven’t spotted it before, the RNID Stop the Block campaign ( Our ear wax removal campaign – RNID) would be well worth becoming familiar with.  RNID provides information on how this issue is being addressed in different ways and the next steps in their campaign.  There is also very useful information there on facts and figures about wax removal services across the UK.
