Chair's Update July 2024

Dear members,

Welcome to this month’s ebulletin with first and foremost a huge thanks to Donna for being a wonderful chair.  Donna has filled this role with dedication, energy and rigour. We also welcome Linor Jones and Les Keith to the co-chair role of the Practice Guidance Group (PGG) as Richard Windle, the PGG previous chair is welcomed to the BSA Vice Chair role. This group continues to evolve and grow, and we would be delighted to hear from members who are interested in the work of the PGG.  BSA guidance contributes to practice in the UK and is also sourced by professional bodies in other countries; exciting work to be involved with.

Also exciting was the fascinating and enjoyable 2 days at the BSA Scientific Meeting in Birmingham. Big thanks to Gemma Crundwell and the team at Fitwise for the seamless organisation.  From diagnostics to management, topics ranged from machine learning to gene therapy. The photos are available on the website if you would like to take a look.

Many congratulations to Doris Bamiou, Gaby Saunders, Kevin Munro, Andreas Anagiotos and Winnie Ng, recipients of this year’s BSA awards. It would be well worth letting your patients know that they can nominate a professional that has made an impact to their lives for a well-deserved award.

We extend our thoughts to the family, friends and colleagues of Dr. Alan Martin, BSA Chair from 1998 to 1990 who died in June. An obituary describing his interesting and diverse career can be found in Audacity.

On the topic of Audacity, many thanks to Roulla Katiri for her editorial role at Audacity as she begins a new professional chapter; we really appreciate her work for this great publication, and a big welcome to Sunidhi Bhat who is the new Editor-in-chief, and thanks to the team at Brighton for their work on this.

We are so aware of how hard BSA members work, and do hope that you get the opportunity to have some time off during the summer.

Best regards

Siobhan Brennan

BSA Chair
