BSA Statement to The Kingdon Review

10/11/2025

Today (Monday 10 November), the Department of Health and Social Care has published the Kingdon review of children’s hearing services.

Dr Camilla Kingdon’s independent review finds significant failures in children’s hearing services, that left hundreds of babies and children with undiagnosed hearing problems.

The British Society of Audiology have issued the following statement:

“The BSA welcomes the report by Dr Camilla Kingdon and supports its findings and recommendations.  As the report highlights, many concerns have been raised over the years by audiology professionals and the lack of engagement at higher levels has undermined and impacted the workforce.  We should also recognise that, despite failings, the current service is kept on its feet by many committed and hardworking professionals doing their very best within the constraints of the system. Things need to improve and the BSA recognises its responsibility to support that process.

We fully support the recommendations, including the need for national oversight, improved training and continuing workforce development. We particularly support the need for greater research across all audiology disciplines in order to develop innovations that improve outcomes, service quality and efficiency. The BSA also recognises the role it needs to play in providing clear guidance and unified work with our colleagues. These conversations have already been progressing and we offer our full commitment to support ongoing efforts to improve audiology”.
