As part of the work of the BSA Research Development Group to support members in developing clinical research capacity and capability, a decision was made to offer opportunities for professionals within audiology to apply for grant funding.
Each application should have a practicing clinician in a relevant discipline as the lead principal investigator, supported by an academic co-investigator as appropriate.
Applications for collaborations between clinicians and academics are welcome. Where academic or research expertise is deemed appropriate for the feasibility of the research but lacking from the study team, the BSA may recommend the support of a research mentor. The lead applicant and academic co-investigator must be members of the BSA at the time of application and for the duration of the research delivery.
The funding may be used for any research-related activity except for conference attendance or training. Indirect research costs are entirely excluded. Funding to top-up an otherwise part-, self-, or un-funded PhD will be considered.
Applications will be considered for applied research areas that are clinically relevant to patients with hearing, tinnitus, or balance problems, and clinical service provision.
Examples of projects may include:
Research questions identified by the Special Interest Groups or the Professional Guidance Group
Research relating to clinical or professional practice on assessment, diagnosis and management of hearing, tinnitus, or balance problems
Research relating to clinical service delivery and implementation
Funding amounts will be up to a maximum of £5,000 per individual project. Proposals for projects with smaller budgets are encouraged.
