Dr Derek Hoare
Chair of the Tinnitus & Hyperacusis SIG
Derek trained in nursing at the University of Brighton and then completed a PhD in neuroscience at University of Manchester. He is now Senior Research Fellow at the NIHR Nottingham Hearing Biomedical Research Unit, University of Nottingham. There he leads a programme of research with particular interests in developing assessment tools and low-intensity psychological and self-help interventions for tinnitus. Derek is a steering group member of TINNET working group 1 (Clinical), a network of clinicians and researchers working to develop pan-European clinical practice guidelines for tinnitus.
The Tinnitus and Hyperacusis SIG is truly multi-disciplinary and will work with and in response to the clinical community to produce practice guidance and recommended procedures documents where they are currently lacking. Derek took on the role of SIG chair in November 2016.
