This 5 day course aims to establish core skills in managing hearing loss in infants and children to optimise life-long auditory potential

The aims and objectives of this module include:

  • To establish core skills in managing hearing loss in infants and children to optimise life-long auditory potential
  • To apply verification and validation techniques for amplification and listening technologies
  • To integrate care across a team of professionals, centred around the needs of the family
  • To be able to present and support early communication options around family choice
  • To understand and derive functional measures of benefit for decision-making on developing listening and expressive speech options

Indicative course content:

– Auditory development and neural plasticity

– Newborn Hearing Screening Programme (NHSP)

– Family-centred hearing management

– Cohesive intervention and assessment of progress

– Advanced Amplification considerations

– Functional speech outcome measures

– Implantable devices

– Auditory Neuropathy Spectrum Disorder (ANSD)

– Improving Quality in Physiological Sciences (IQIPS) & Quality performance

This course will be taught by Carolina Leal and external contributors to ensure a variety of interest

Target audience(s):

– Audiologists wishing to expand their knowledge and experience in paediatric audiology, for example, audiologists moving job from adult to a paediatric audiology department or starting a paediatric clinic within their existing practice.

– Audiologists with current experience in paediatric audiology who wish to update their knowledge in the most current trends and technological advances in the field of paediatric audiology

– Audiology assistants wishing to expand their knowledge and experience in paediatric audiology

– Teachers of the Deaf, Speech and Language Therapists, General Practitioners with special interest in Audiology, AudioVestibular doctors and any other health professional wishing to expand their knowledge and experience in paediatric audiology

The course is five days in duration and will run each Friday from 17th February 2017 to 17th March 2017.  Delegates are must attend all 5 days in order to be eligible for a CPD certificate of attendance.

IMPORTANT: This Masterclass shares one day (Friday 17th March) with the Advanced Amplification and Aural Rehabilitation Masterclass.
